Welcome to Fox Chase Cancer Center/Temple Health

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Please click "Apply Here" in the top left corner to complete an application.

Fox Chase Cancer Center Mission: Prevail over cancer, marshalling heart and mind to bold scientific discovery, pioneering prevention and compassionate care.

Volunteers are a vital part of the cancer center's efforts to provide the best possible patient/family centered care. Volunteers come from all walks of life and from many of our local education institutions.Hospital volunteers must feel compelled to help people and Research volunteers must feel compelled to support the research work done here. Our volunteer program offers a variety of opportunities for service in our hospital and research departments. We try to match volunteers with their interests to ensure it's a positive experience for both the volunteer and our institution. Assignments can be arranged to try to fit your schedule, and we require a commitment to complete 60 hours.

Adult Volunteers include retirees, homemakers, business professionals, FCCC colleagues, college students, and scientists. Based on their interests and skills, adult volunteers are utilized year-round on both in the hospital and in the research laboratories. We also have many volunteers who donate handmade blankets, hats and scarves to be distributed to patients on our Friends Cart. For information on donating items, please click here.

College Students looking to volunteer in the hospital may be students volunteering year round to gain experience but are not receiving school credit for their time here. There are also college students who are performing a clinical rotation arranged through their school. Students interested in volunteering in research may already have an assignment through their school research rotation or may be seeking a research opportunity on their own.

Summer High School Volunteers include students from our local high schools. During the summer months, student volunteers (15-18) are offered the opportunity for career exploration in the healthcare field as they observe the day to day activities of Fox Chase colleagues in various tasks and duties. The deadline for application submission is March 30th, but we often reach maximum capacity for this program before this date. *Note: High School volunteering throughout the year requires that you first volunteer during a Summer Program.

Some of our High School students have volunteered throughout High School and College and a few have obtained employment at Fox Chase Cancer Center with younger family members following the same path.

Once your application is received, we will contact the references you provided. After both are received, you will be invited to attend orientation after which you will have an opportunity to schedule an interview with the Director to discuss your assignment placement. The process of onboarding can take a minimum of two weeks to complete as there are documents to be completed, including medical requirements, and you will need to complete HIPAA training online.

Volunteering at Fox Chase Cancer Center is a wonderful experience, giving volunteers the opportunity to work on a team in a health care environment.

We hope to hear from you.

Frequently Asked Questions (click question to view answer)

I would like to shadow a provider (doctor, PA, etc.) at Fox Chase Cancer Center. How can I apply for a shadowing opportunity?
We welcome shadows at Fox Chase. However, you are asked to find your own sponsor. Please visit our website and reach out directly to the individual you would like to shadow. Once they approve, the provider will start the internal approval process and we will contact you with further information.
I am a high school student (or a parent of a high school student) interested in volunteer opportunities. Do you accept volunteers under 18?
Yes! We offer an annual program for high school students each summer. If you are interested in volunteering year-round, you must first participate in our summer program. TIn this program, students volunteer come to Fox Chase Cancer Center one day a week for 4-6 hours per day. You must be at least 15 years old and able to commit to volunteering for at least 8 of the 10 weeks of summer vacation. Assignments vary from year to year and depend on your interest.
We will begin accepting applications for each summer in January and the deadline for submission is March 30th, unless we reach capacity prior to that date. Due to a high level of interest in the program, we encourage applicants to apply early, as we often reach full capacity before March 30th. We require 2 references, one teacher and one adult, non-family member who has experience with you in a supervisory position (e.g.: at work, at a religious institution, at a volunteer program, etc.). Once your application is received, you will be receiving an email regarding the next steps.
