Welcome to Fox Chase Cancer Center/Temple Health

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Please click "Apply Here" in the top left corner to complete an application.

Fox Chase Cancer Center Mission: Prevail over cancer, marshalling heart and mind to bold scientific discovery, pioneering prevention and compassionate care.

Volunteers are a vital part of the cancer center's efforts to provide the best possible patient/family centered care. Volunteers come from all walks of life and from many of our local education institutions.Hospital volunteers must feel compelled to help people and Research volunteers must feel compelled to support the research work done here. Our volunteer program offers a variety of opportunities for service in our hospital and research departments. We try to match volunteers with their interests to ensure it's a positive experience for both the volunteer and our institution. Assignments can be arranged to try to fit your schedule, and we require a commitment to complete 60 hours.

Adult Volunteers include retirees, homemakers, business professionals, FCCC colleagues, college students, and scientists. Based on their interests and skills, adult volunteers are utilized year-round on both in the hospital and in the research laboratories. We also have many volunteers who donate handmade blankets, hats and scarves to be distributed to patients on our Friends Cart. For information on donating items, please click here.

College Students looking to volunteer in the hospital may be students volunteering year round to gain experience but are not receiving school credit for their time here. There are also college students who are performing a clinical rotation arranged through their school. Students interested in volunteering in research may already have an assignment through their school research rotation or may be seeking a research opportunity on their own.

Summer High School Volunteers include students from our local high schools. During the summer months, student volunteers (15-18) are offered the opportunity for career exploration in the healthcare field as they observe the day to day activities of Fox Chase colleagues in various tasks and duties. The deadline for application submission is March 30th, but we often reach maximum capacity for this program before this date. *Note: High School volunteering throughout the year requires that you first volunteer during a Summer Program.

Some of our High School students have volunteered throughout High School and College and a few have obtained employment at Fox Chase Cancer Center with younger family members following the same path.

Once your application is received, we will contact the references you provided. After both are received, you will be invited to attend orientation after which you will have an opportunity to schedule an interview with the Director to discuss your assignment placement. The process of onboarding can take a minimum of two weeks to complete as there are documents to be completed, including medical requirements, and you will need to complete HIPAA training online.

Volunteering at Fox Chase Cancer Center is a wonderful experience, giving volunteers the opportunity to work on a team in a health care environment.

We hope to hear from you.

FAQ Section

Frequently Asked Questions (click question to view answer)

When is orientation?
Orientation occurs once per month, typically on a Tuesday morning at 10:00 am and is held via Microsoft Teams. When you apply to volunteer with Fox Chase, we will automatically invite you to the next orientation once you have completed the pre-orientation requirements.
My application asks for lab/program contact information. Who do I list here?
Certain applications may ask for contact information for your lab or program. If you have been accepted into a lab, this is typically the person whose lab in which you are working. If you are accepted into a non-clinical program, such as an internship, this should be your preceptor/supervisor at FCCC during your internship or someone with whom you have had contact from that department. This does not refer to an advisor at your school.
My application asks for a TUID, what is this?
If you have indicated you are a Temple student, our application will ask for your TUID number. This is a 9-digit student ID number. It does not refer to your login (which beings with "tu" followed by another letter and 5-6 numbers). If your application form is requiring a TUID and you have not indicated that you are a Temple student, please double check your answers on the application and contact us at VolunteerServices@fccc.edu.
What happens after I submit my application?
This depends on whether you are applying as somebody who already has an assigment (e.g.: researcher accepted into a lab, intern accepted into an internship, etc.) or if you have applied as a new applicant. If you have an assignment, you man proceed to https://volunteers.fccc.edu/pages/mystatus to begin uploading your required documentation. If you do not have an assigment, we will contact your references. We require responses from two references, so please follow up with your references to ensure they complete the reference forms. After that, you will be placed on a list to be invited to our next orientation.
